Functions & Key Features:

  • Good initial grab – holds cornice in place without slip
  • Can be painted over
  • Good flexibility
  • Strong adhesion to a variety of substrates
  • Ready mix paste – easy to use
  • Non slump paste – can apply to vertical surfaces

Adhesion:

Bonds to cement plaster, gypsum plaster, acrylic, PVA and enamel painted surfaces, polystyrene, and wood

Limitations:

  • Do not use at temperatures below 5oC.
  • Protect from freezing
  • Do not apply to wet or very damp surfaces
  • As with any water based adhesive at least one of the surface should be porous to allow moisture in the adhesive to escape

Surface Preparation:

  • The cornice needs to be bonded to dry, firm, clean, dust, mould and grease free surfaces. All wallpaper, paint, loose plaster should be removed from both the wall and ceiling - try to test the cornice before commencing with the job.
  • It is recommended that within the marked off area where the cornice is to be fitted, that the substrate (both wall and ceiling) is first roughened (sharp knife- criss-cross scratches or sanding) to provide a key for the adhesive. Use a clean brush to remove any dust

Application Instructions:

  • ALCOLIN CORNICE ADHESIVE is a ready-to-use paste adhesive and must not be adulterated by the addition of water or any other substance. Stir well before use
  • Read the cornice manufacturer’s instructions carefully before commencing with the installation
  • Using a flat spatula or pallet knife evenly spread sufficient adhesive along the top and bottom edges of the cornice where it will make contact with both the wall and ceiling
  • Press the cornice into place then gently apply pressure along the length of the cornice to ensure that the adhesive makes full contact with all surfaces. If the ceiling or wall is not straight, do not push hard where there is a large gap
  • When installing long sections of cornice, it may begin to sag before the adhesive has set. If this occurs, insert one or two galvanized nails into the wall under the bottom edge of the cornice for temporarily support - once the adhesive has set, the nails can be removed and the holes filled. On the odd occasion it may be necessary to insert a few nails into the ceiling to stop the cornice from 'rolling' forward. Remove these after the adhesive has set and fill the holes
  • Heavy (plaster) cornice may require additional fixing with screws. Carefully position cornice without adhesive, drill through the cornice and into the wall at approximately 1 metre intervals. Countersink the holes in the cornice, and fit wall plugs. Apply the adhesive to the cornice, reposition and secure using brass screws. Once the adhesive has set, cover the brass screw heads using filler
  • As each successive length is installed, each piece will have at least one joint, apply a small amount of adhesive at the joint end so that the lengths are bonded end to end
  • Any excess adhesive squeezed out during the installation should be scraped off with a pallet knife and used to fill any visible gaps. Wipe away residue with a damp sponge or cloth

Storage Instructions:

ALCOLIN CONTRACTORS ACRYLIC has a shelf life of at least 24 months if stored in a cool (below 25°C), dry place in its original moisture-tight container If the material is kept beyond the recommended shelf life, it is not necessarily unusable, but a check should be performed to observe whether the product is still workable, applyable and uncured To maximize the shelf life of the opened cartridge, it would be advisable to create an airtight environment. This can be achieved by removing the nozzle and wiping down the opening, placing a piece of plastic over it, and finally screwing the nozzle back on. Store in a cool environment

Cleaning Instructions:

Clean equipment with water before adhesive dries. Dried adhesive can be manually brushed or scraped using hot water.

Safety Instructions:

Although ALCOLIN CORNICE ADHESIVE is non-toxic, safe handling practices should still be implemented to avoid irritating sensitive skin. Wear rubber gloves to avoid direct contact with skin. Avoid contact with eyes. In the event of skin contamination, rinse thoroughly with cold water. Seek medical assistance if irritation or discomfort persists. Cured acrylic sealant can be handled without any health risk Keep ALCOLIN CORNICE ADHESIVE out of reach of children!
